Jayawardene was out for a duck in Sri Lanka's second innings. By my calculations Jayawardene's average currently sits at 50.09.

MAHELA JAYAWARDEDE NOW HAS THE IDENTICAL NUMBER OF TEST HUNDREDS(34) AND TEST FIFTIES(48) AS BRIAN LARA
11,953
LARA
52.88 avg with 34 100s and 48 50s
11,671
JAYAWARDENE
50.09 avg with 34 100s and 48 50s

* Jayawardene needs 283 runs to overtake Lara as the 5th highest scorer in test cricket. He has 2 tests remaining in his test career.
* Can he do it and maintain a 50+ test average ?

Yes he will. And that means nothing. I know alot of players with 45ish career averages way better than him.

I wish him all the best in his upcoming matches. He has been a great performer for Sri lanka in all formats along with being a smart captain. I am not sure if he will finish with an average of more than 50 but irrespective his place in the list of all time greats is set in stone.

Oh he's retired hasn't he? Well one of the more aesthetically pleasing right handed batsmen ever. I don't know if he'd figure amongst all time greats, but was a pleasure to watch always. Regardless his contribution to SL cricket has been massive.

Jayawardene averages 50.02 before his final Test. If he is dismissed twice, he needs 94 runs to keep that figure above 50.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
