Willis should talk about licks he received in the 73 test matches. Both Babu and Sobers made 150 at Lords!

Jayawardene is an excellent batsman with great cricketing statistics. It is good to see him going out while still in good form. He has played a lot of test matches and he will be missed. I hope he will go on for at least 2 more years in odi and t20 cricket.

Googs:
* Check out that immaculate forward defence shot by the Babu.
* You think Shiv rass could look as solid as that ?
* All Shiv can do is poke around and push his pads---then get LBW.
* But Shiv has patience---that is something the babu ran out of when he was set at the wicket----the babu liked to experiment sometimes----that was his downfall many times.
BOTTOM LINE:
* The babu always looked like an EXTRAORDINARY GREAT
Shiv may have great numbers----and Jayawardene also----but those 2 can't lace the babu's boots when it comes to batsmanship.

THE BIG QUESTION REGARDING MAHELA JAYAWARDENE
* Will he retire with a 50+ test average ?
* His current test average is 50.18 after 145 tests.
* His next 2 tests will be against South Africa.
* These are Jayawardene's last 6 test scores against SA: 30, 15, 31, 14, 30, 12
* So Jayawardene has averaged 22.00 in his last 6 innings against SA.
* Jayawardene's last 2 tests will be against Pakistan.
* These are Jayawardene's last 10 scores against Pakistan:
* 14, 0, 1*, 12, 11, 5, 0, 129, 47, 46
QUESTION AGAIN:
Will Mahela Jayawardene end his test career with a 50+ test average ?
He deserves to.

* You're right! Mahela is a home made bread.
61.13---Jayawardene's HOME average
39.72---Jayawardene's AWAY average
howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/P...ay.asp?PlayerID=2104
* But he'll be playing 2 tests versus #2 ranked South Africa and 2 tests versus #5 ranked Pakistan.
* Anyway, those Lankan wickets are flat as a pancake---batting paradise----Jayawardene will most likely hold onto his 50+ test average.

* Mahela and Sanga have a chance to put up some big scores in the first test.
* The wicket is a batsman's paradise----SA scored 455/9dec----typical Sri Lankan wicket.
* By the way Sanga needs a fifty for a world record----most consecutive fifties in tests
* Good luck to Mahela---I would like to see him end his test career averaging 50+

JAYAWARDENE'S TEST AVERAGE DIPS TO 49.80
* Jayawardene's scores in the first test vs SA were 3 and 10
* After 146 tests, Jayawardene has scored 11,506 runs at an average of 49.80 with 33 hundreds and 48 fifties.
QUESTION:
*
Will Mahela Jayawardene join Inzamam UlHaq
and end his excellent test career averaging below 50 ?
* In 120 tests Inzamam scored 8820 runs at an average of 49.60 with 25 hundreds and 46 fifties.
