I think this is a very fair assessment. ESPNcricinfo's stats editor S Rajesh provided an interesting look at Jayawardene's career away from home.

Yep, in agreement with most of that. The pushing outside the offstump/angled bat thing is readily observable. He plays that shot through slip cordon for runs often, even. He's no Sanga, but he's good to watch when he's on song and still scored all those runs. Respect for that.

Yes, he did, no doubt about that. He leaves the game as the seventh highest run scorer in Test cricket with 11,814 runs. He trails only Tendulkar, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid, Sangakkara and Lara.

JAYAWARDENE HAS THE UNIQUE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE ONLY BATSMAN IN THE 10K CLUB WHO DOES NOT AVERAGE 50.00


* But he scored 34 hundreds---same as Lara.

* And he scored 50 fifties---2 more than Lara.
