* What CONSISTENCY are you talking about Googs ?
* In 79 tests the Babu played in 137 innings---he scored 15 hundreds and 28 fifties----that's a CONSISTENCY(43/137) of only 31.3%
* But I'll give credit where it's rightfully due----the Babu looked like an EXTRAORDINARY GREAT whether he made 0 or 256
. ;D hahahaha

Excellent numbers but like a few of these 'brilliant' sub continent players, their greatest successes have been on home soil.
Although only playing 8 more tests at home than away, MJ has scored 60% of his runs at home with twice as many centuries, 22. A home legend but not so much away with a relatively low, 39.72, average compated to 61 at home!
Against the best bowling attacks, Australia and Pakistan, he did not do that well either averaging 33 and 32 respectively in 43 tests!
However a very good player but not one of my favourites.

Bob Willis and the Babu were county teammates. I'm sure Willis got his fair share of licks from the Babu in the nets.
But from what I recall, the particular shot Mahela played that was "Kanhaiesque" according to Willis was one of those "down on your knees cover drives".

INNINGS WITH SCORES OF 40 OR MORE
* Kanhai had 57 innings with scores of 40 or more---his total innings was 137.
* 57/137 = 41.6%
=====================
* Shiv who can't lace Kanhai's boots when it comes to looking like an EXTRAORDINARY GREAT.
* Shiv has had 115 innings with scores of 40 or more---his total innings is 266
* 115/266 = 43.2%
==================
RE: MAHELA JAYAWARDENE----this thread is a tribute to him
* Jayawardene has had 103 innings with scores of 40 or more---his total innings is 244
* 103/244 = 42.2%
==============
Kanhai
41.6%
Jayawardene
42.2%
Chanderpaul
43.2%
===============
BOTTOM LINE:
Shiv and Jaya had better CONSISTENCY numbers. ;D
But Kanhai always looked like an EXTRAORDINARY GREAT----numbers don't apply to him.

Googs:
* Anantha is entitled to his opinion.
* But the NUMBERS don't lie----go back and see my analysis above---Jaya and Shiv both have better CONSISTENCY numbers than Kanhai.
* But could Jaya and Shiv bat like Kanhai ?
* NO FACTING WAY.

Listen Googs!
* Rohan Bholalall not Babulall Kanhai is my favorite batsman of all time.
* When my brother and I used to play bottom house cricket---I was Kanhai. ;D hahahaha
* In my beautiful and serene mind
---NUMBERS DON'T APPLY TO KANHAI.
* The Babu will always be my favorite batsman of all time.

::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::
I hear you. I think every kid was "Kanhai" during that period!
He is/was loved by cricket fans around the world! They adored him in the subcontinent. Men like Gavaskar worship his every move. He is indeed a great, regardless at which angle you are looking from.
