* Spuds argues with EMOTION.
* But the NUMBERS expose him as a BLOWHARD.
* Ask him how can Sobers be DOMINANT when he only scored 46 runs from every 100 balls he faced at Home ?
* And point out Shiv's 42SR at Home.

THIS WAS SpudsmcKenzie over at CC:
CHECK THIS FOLKS:
NOW LETS CHECK SOBERS:
COMPARISON:
* Shiv has scored 45.1% of his runs in boundaries; Sobers scored 38.4% of his runs in boundaries
.
* So if Shiv pushed and prodded most of his career, how come he has a greater percentage of runs scored in boundaries than the great Sobers ? ;D

Rev,
What really is the point of this thread?
Numbers are not always absolute as variables such as the era, and therefore playing conditions, are not factored in, so you cannot compare like with like.
If one took the numbers absolutely, you would, be saying Jacobs, Logie and Hinds, amongst others, are far more dominant at home than Sir Garry!
A more relevant perspective might be to limit the timeperiod to a certain sample.
I would find it difficult and perhaps crass, to even compare Sir Gary to Vivian and Lara, never mind anyone else.

This whole thread is wrong, and shows why numbers without context are meaningless.
Sobers strike rate at home was not 46. The 46 figure is derived from only five test matches, four of which took place in the year Sobers retired, when he was old, washed up, and in which he was failing every game.
The fifth home game, in which his strike rate is available, took place when he was in his prime. He got a century in the second innings with a strike rate of 80.
Sobers accelerated when he was in, and most biographers estimate his career strike rate as being in the mid 50s, which was fast for the era.
For the sensitive Guyanese fans out there, in terms of home games, it was usually Kanhai, batting up the order, regularly out-performing Sobers.
And of course Chanders' strike rate must not be taken out of context either; he gets to play crap teams and bowlers now, and his strike rate goes down to the 30s when big guns like McGrath and Warne are present. Not that this matters, when everyone is failing around him.

It's not poppycock. That's not Sobers' home SR, nor is that Viv's home SR. That Sobers SR is an incomplete SR derived from 5 games.
If you read Sobers' biographies, even the most scholarly ones have to estimate his SR.

Guess that 50 Average to define statistical " GREATS" is meaningless !
Strike Rate is meaningless : it should be Estimated ....hahahaha
