Milestone for Permaul as Harpy Eagles take control against Red Force

SUMMARY: Guyana Harpy Eagles 324 all out from 86.3 overs (Kevin Sinclair 69, Leon Johnson 62, Anthony Bramble 62, Keemo Paul 46, Kemol Savory 44; Imran Khan 4-80, Bryan Charles 3-85, Uthman Muhammad 2-31) and 96-3 from 34 overs (Kemol Savory 34*, Matthew Nandu 33; Darren Bravo 1-12, Uthman Muhammad 1-16, Imran Khan 1-16) vs Trinidad and Tobago Red Force 160 all out from 52 overs (Jason Mohammed 50; Ronsford Beaton 4-31, Veerasammy Permaul 3-36, Keemo Paul 3-37)

Guyanese left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul on Thursday wrote his name in the history books, becoming the leading wicket-taker in Regional First-Class cricket in the Caribbean, as Guyana Harpy Eagles took full control against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Playing in the third round of the West Indies Four-Day Championship, Harpy Eagles extended their lead against the hosts to 260 by stumps on day two, their dominance led in part by Permaul’s excellence with the ball.

While Ronsford Beaton led the bowling effort in securing Harpy Eagles a healthy 164-run first innings lead, Permaul surpassed Jamaican Nikita Miller’s haul of 511 wickets taken in First-Class cricket in the Caribbean.

Permaul ended with 3-36 and now has 512 wickets. With the three-wicket haul in his 132nd game, the 33-year-old spinner now has 582 First-Class wickets.

“It’s a good feeling to achieve such a significant milestone,” Permaul said at stumps on day two.

“Cricket is a game of numbers, so it’s always nice to have good numbers. I’m looking forward to getting more success and help my country to win the title again.”

“I want to thank all those who have supported me over the years, especially my teammates, my parents and everyone at my club, especially president Vemen Walter, who has been there from the start. I dedicate this milestone to them.”

Permaul is in his 17th season of First-Class cricket, having made his debut against Windward Islands in Grenada in January 2007.

He took 4-83 off 34 overs in a rain-affected game that ended in a draw.

From the playing XIs, Andre Fletcher is the only other active cricketer, while another Deighton Butler has transitioned to Umpiring.

Harpy Eagles dominate

Harpy Eagles closed on 96-3 after earning a huge first innings lead, with Kemol Savory not out on 34 and skipper Leon Johnson on nine. Matthew Nandu scored 33.

Uthman Muhammad, Imran Khan and Darren Bravo are the Red Force wicket-takers so far.

Notably, Bravo dismissed debutant Kevlon Anderson for the second time in the match, this time for 15. He made six in the first innings.

Earlier, Red Force, resuming on 7-0, were dismissed for 160 in response of Harpy Eagles’ 324.

Beaton was the pick of the Guyanese bowlers, taking 4-31, while Permaul grabbed 3-36 and Keemo Paul 3-37.

For Red Force, Jason Mohammed made 50, the only score of significance.

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.

I focus on what I would love. And what I would love is for this team to have success."
