TAROUBA, Trinidad (CMC) — Splendid hundreds from Tion Webster and Yannic Cariah pioneered a Trinidad and Tobago Red Force fightback to leave their second round match against Jamaica Scorpions interestingly poised here yesterday.

The right-handed Webster, in only his fourth first-class match, slammed a career-best 178, while Cariah, a left-hander, stroked 127, as Red Force compiled 380 for seven in their first innings on the penultimate day of the contest.

Seamer Derval Green was the best bowler with three for 77, while left-arm spinner Paul Harrison finished with two for 60.

In an attempt to force an outright result, Captain Denesh Ramdin called time on the innings half-hour from the close with Red Force still 51 runs behind on first innings, and the move quickly paid dividends as the visitors lost an early wicket to end on 29 for one.

Left-hander Trevon Griffith fell in the sixth over of the innings, driving a Roshon Primus full toss to cover where Marlon Richards took a diving catch.

They lead by 80 runs heading into today's final day at the Brian Lara Stadium.

Earlier, Webster and Cariah batted superbly to put on 273 for the fifth wicket as Red Force, resuming on 133 for four, dominated the first two sessions, keeping Scorpions without any success.

Webster faced 316 deliveries and stroked 17 fours and five sixes as he recorded his second first-class hundred, while Cariah notched his third with an innings that comprised 306 balls with 14 boundaries.

Red Force went to lunch on 213 for four with Webster unbeaten on 96 and Cariah on 80, and the pair added a further 71 runs in the second session as both reached triple figures.

Scorpions tasted success for the first time, 40 minutes after tea, when Cariah was brilliantly taken at deep mid-wicket by Green as he hit out against Harrison.

Webster then passed his 150 as he put on 61 for the sixth wicket with Primus, whose 26 required only 35 balls and included three fours.

Once Webster missed a sweep at a straight one from off-spinner Brandon King and was lbw, Primus followed in the next over, bowled around his legs by full length delivery from Harrison, with the declaration coming soon after.

THE Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and the Jamaica Scorpions could make no headway against each other in their Windies Professional Cricket League 4Day game at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday.

The game, after a high-scoring affair in the first innings, petered out to a draw, with the Red Force on 84-3 in chase of 192 for victory.
The Scorpions had started the affair on the front foot, scoring 431 courtesy of 169 from Fabian Allen and 98 from Brandon King.
However, the Red Force would respond in kind, through the efforts of Yannic Cariah, 127, and Tion Webster, 178.

The Red Force’s 380-7 declared, though impressive, maybe took too much time, so though they skittled out the Scorpions in the second innings for 141, finding a win in the time remaining was very unlikely.
Imran Khan was the man who threatened to make a game of the situation, bagging 6-59 in that second innings against skipper Paul Pamer Jr, who scored 52 valuable runs.
Palmer’s innings soaked up 184 deliveries and along with Derval Green, 30, may have saved the match.
Chasing down 192 was never going to be easy and despite Denesh Ramdin’s unbeaten 31 from 42 deliveries, the Red Force never got close, still needing a further 108 for victory at stumps.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

was Ramdin's decision a good one

I doh know but I wud not have done it. I wud have tried for the points on first innings. then making it or not try to skittle them and win by the end of the fourth day.

that he dies skittle dem lends a bit of credence to his decision. but for all his exertion Titty came out with little or nothing.

if in fact Titty took too long to score their runs then that makes my point valid. there was no time so go for the points on first....

it does not seem a good decision to me..not well thought out!

ChristinaIt is time for a full evaluation and accountability to the people of this region for the disastrous batting performance of the West Indies Cricket Team. We cannot disregard what all of us witnessed and endured in the last three test matches. This is not about our players, administrators, or any individual; it is an entire system that is failing, and together, all of us must fix it now. This cannot continue into another series; we must not allow it to.(15.07.2025, 15:52)(15:52)0
