The pitches will play a huge roll as the set up of the squad. Recent history has shown that our pitches have gotten slow and low which will support the slower bowlers.

Sadly, veteran bats such as Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith and Kirk Edwards have all proven themselves to be undeserving of a place if numbers are to be taken into consideration.
This is why I could never be a selector. Give me on field performances over supposed veteran leadership intangibles

it will be essential to have at least two spinners, preferably an off break and leg break bowler to balance the attack.

IIRC, wasn't Chandrika dismissed for 3 ducks in his first 4 Test innings? From what I saw of him in those Test matches, he had a hard time finding scoring shots. The fact that he didn't have a great PCL would also be some cause for concern for me.
I do agree that chopping and changing openers doesn't do anyone any good. Personally, I believe that all players should be given two Test series to prove their worth.
Finding two quality international openers is very difficult, something that both England and South Africa have themselves been struggling with since the retirements of Strauss and Smith.
