The qualifying groups have now concluded with both Afghanistan and Bangladesh moving on to the Super 10.

Pakistan's batting line-up, which had misfired frequently in recent matches, finally came together in their first match of the World T20 2016 to overpower Bangladesh by 55 runs. Fifties from
Ahmed Shehzad
and
Mohammad Hafeez
, and
Shahid Afridi
's 19-ball 49 propelled Pakistan to 201 for 5, a total which proved too steep for a side that had beaten them in their last two T20I encounters. This was only the second time Pakistan scored more than 200 in a T20 international, and the previous instance - in April 2008 - was also against Bangladesh.

The schedule makers certainly didn't do England any favours by having them face the best two teams in the group back-to-back. However, in saying that, you do have to play each team once regardless of when you play them. As this England team is still young, they could have done with getting a few confidence boosting wins under their belt before facing South Africa. A loss against South Africa will in all likelihood eliminate them.
My concerns about the bowling were again on full display against West Indies. I can't see anything other than a South Africa win.
Tomorrow should be a fantastic day of cricket with Australia also squaring off against New Zealand.

Just looking at the forecast, rain is expected to loom over the Oz/NZ match. I really do hope that the rain stays away. Sadly, it appears that the rain is going to be a persistent threat throughout much of this tournament.

It's full time that a way be found to not let rain be a conclusive decider of results in cricket matches. This is probably the only sport that this situation is acceptable. In other sporting disciplines, there may be continuation or replaying of rain-interrupted matches. Why can't the entire playing surface be quickly covered so that after rain there can be a quick restart of the game? The administration is so stuck in the old ways that it's not really making any meaningful effort to make the sport more attractive.

Yesterday was a wonderful day of cricket with two nail biting finishes. It should not go unnoticed that both matches featured the two qualifying teams (Bangladesh and Afghanistan).
I really do hope that the ICC have a re-think when it comes to reducing the number of teams in future World Cups. We need to grow the game and both of these sides have added great quality and excitement.
