Methink it was that PINK 149 that made a lasting impression.
BOTH those 2 records were against West Indies !
I once saw Garfield Sobers in a Pink Golf shirt on the Fairway ! ;D

He is the best multi dimensional batsman, but not the best in terms of class and technique. He may be good at pyrotechnics, but cricket is not about it.To me they were legends and AB still needs time and experience to get there.

Not the best in terms of class or technique? I think he's the best in terms of class and technique. When Mitchell Johnson was terrorizing every player he came up against de Villiers played him better than everyone because of the technique he utilized.

Well this article must be a very bad joke or the person who wrote this must have watched different players from everyone else. Personally I rate Hamla above AB de Villiers because he has done so great in just a short space in international cricket. I will not even entertain the idea that de Villiers is rated even in the top 10 greatest batsmen of all time.

tut tut tut! dat emotion will do you in every time :-[ :-[ :-[
time to look again at Viv to see if you may be wrong..to see if there is room to forgive and move on. you cant be forever unforgiving to anyone...especially a west indian great.
I was against Kalliecharran and the Rebles for s long time. I have forgiven
de Villiers is not as good now as Viv was then..not in my view. world cricket is at its lowest ebb when it comes to talent level. there is not even one great batsman around these days. just the previous generation India had at least 3 the west indies one great and a near great. there were great bowlers...warne, mcgrath etc. there isnt much now. Kane Williamson, Hasmim Alma, aging Clark, new /smith, de Villiers, aging gale and shive..cook, bell, aging sangakara and old misbah
the only great or near great I see around is Steyn the fast man. and he is looking rather wonky these days

ABDV's the best batsman working today. But he's also had to face no great bowlers. A handful of games vs Anderson, Flintoff, Johnson and Malinga are probably the best he's faced.
Unlike many modern players with good stats, ABDV's played very few games vs the traditional minnows (Bangladesh and Zimbabwe), but has been raking up godly scores vs neo-minnow The West Indies for almost six years now.
It will be interesting to see how ABDV does vs New Zealand, who arguably have the best bowling attack in the World Cup, after South Africa.
