"Monday 31 March 1997 was a dark day in the history of Indian cricket and definitely the worst of my captaincy career. And yet it had promised so much.
In fact, over dinner at a restaurant in St Lawrence Gap in Barbados the night before, I remember having a joke with the waiter, who was predicting a West Indian win.
He was confident that Ambrose would bounce India out the next morning," Tendulkar writes.
"Now, in the first innings of this match, Franklyn Rose had bowled me a bouncer and I had pulled him into the stands for six. So I reminded the waiter of the shot
and jokingly said to him that if Ambrose tried to bowl me a bouncer, I would hit him all the way to Antigua. :-*
"I was so confident of our chances that I pointed to the fridge and said he should immediately chill a bottle of champagne
and I would come and open it the next day and pour him a glass to celebrate winning the match," Tendulkar says in the book.
"Instead, we collapsed for a miserable 81 all out, handing the West Indies a 38-run victory. ::LOL::

You think Roach is toothless?
1997 is when we had Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop togther, all three deadly, though Ambrose was starting to lose pace.
In the first 1997 test vs India, Hooper, Chanders and Lara put up big scores. Rose cleans up India with 7 wickets and the game is won.
India was about to kill us in the second test, but Chanders and Stuart Williams bat long and slow and save a draw for us.
In the third test, WI batsmen fail in both innings, but Chanders gets a century and gives us something to defend. Rose and Bishop kill the Indians.
Fourth test, again drawn. Lara gets a century but play is scrapped for 3 days. We would have probably lost if those three days werent scrapped.
Fifth test, two days scrapped, match goes to a draw.
In those five tests, we only had one convincing win with everyone doing well together.
West Indies then won the four match ODI series, Chanders making a century and a 83. No other batsmen did much, except Stuart Williams with 2 good knocks.

"**ahem ** 137 !"
I mentioned that Test score already. You're respoding to my quote about the ODI games. In the first ODI game, Chanders made 83, and in the last ODI game he made 100 and something not out.
"As wellas too short and always injured !"
True. Who do you prefer, Roach or Taylor? Or do all current WI bowlers fill you with seething disgust?

First order of buisness is to get over the obsession with the Glory days !
accept that we are a shytehound # 8 ranked team : and then come up with a plan .
Thought Pybus was paid 250K per annum to do just that : but we were Conned >

I wonder what happened to West Indies now. Why can't they produce any more bowlers like them?
