Only 4 batsmen in history have scored 12000 test runs---Tendulkar, Ponting, Kallis and Dravid. Right now there is a race between Kumar Sangakkara(11988) and Shiv Chanderpaul(11684) to be the 5th batsmen to reach 12K
11988 Sangakkara needs only 12 more runs but he doesn't play a test match until Dec 26th 2014 vs NZ
11684 Chanderpaul needs 316 runs and he will be playing 3 tests against India in November 2014 and 2 tests against South Africa in December 2014.
QUESTION:
* Who will become the 5th batsmen in history to score 12K test runs ?

It was jealousy that made fired WI coach push Shiv Chanderpaul off the WI oneday team and it is jealousy by the current selectors that is keeping Shiv away from the WI ODI team.
* And here is another TRUTH.
Link to stats
* Had Shiv not been prolific in test over the past 8 years the selectors would have forced him out.
BACK TO ODIs
* None of the clowns in the current WI oneday team can bat like Shiv---NONE!
* It's JEALOUSY plain and simple that has forced Shiv off the ODI team and keeps him off the ODI team.
* Shiv will soon be the highest runs scorer in WI test history
but a jealous coach and jealous selectors have denied him the distinction of being the highest scorer in ODI also.
* And by the way, most of the cricket fans who don't want Shiv in the ODI team----they are JEALOUS of Shiv's success too.
*
LOSERS ARE CONSUMED BY ENVY AND JEALOUSY.

My money is on Shiv since he will likely have 10 innings to make the runs. It is highly unlikely that he will not score over 400 runs for those matches. It hard to believe that only 4 batsmen have reach that figure, especially with number of test matches being played these days.

Whatever Shiv contributes, if it leads to the team doing well that will be far more important than personal achievement in a losing cause.
However Shiv has never scored more than 260 runs in a 3 match series,2002-03, in India so he will have to do well to match or even do better than that. Not impossible at all.....
However if he gets close to 260, the fist test against SA is on 17th Dec where it is possible to get there before Sanga but with Windies second and Sri Lanka first test over the Crristmas period it could be a close run thing so Shiv has to get there by the first Test against SA.
Best wishes to him but I hope his contributions lead to some favourable results for the team and he bats positively as he showed against Bangladesh.

* As you are aware Shiv has only played 3 tests in a series in India once----as you mentioned that was in 2002-03---he scored 260 runs at an average of 65.00 with 1 hundred and 1 fifty in that series.
* In 2 subsequent series in India---Shiv played 2 tests in 2011 and scored 216 runs and in 2013 he played 2 tests and scored 133 runs

If the Shivster start his padding and playing extra cautious, he will not make it. Ashwin will eat his lunch.
If he plays his normal positive game, he will make it.
I hope he asks the captain to bat at number 4 during this series. Else he will be short of the target runs and left remaining with his not outs.

* You are absolutely right! If Shiv plays positive cricket he will easily pass 12K.
* Ashwin has dismissed Shiv 4 times in his last 4 tests against India----these were his scores: 47, 4, 36, 41
* I clearly recall that 41---Shiv was looking solid----playing positive----then all of a sudden he decided to hide his bat behind his pad and got trapped LBW.
* So you are right---if Shiv plays positively---he'll reach 12K versus India----he if pokes and chooks----he should retire with his 50+ average.

That is why i said he would have to at least score 260. His average in that series is because of the one not out.
If Shiv averages 50, in real terms, in each innings then he can do it.
However if Shiv is as record conscious as you portray, he will not be positive as he will be far too scared to lose his wickets.
Hew will get there but it is questionable whether he will before Sanga.
Time will tell.

CHECK THIS:
* Shiv has been scoring an average of 86 runs per test the past 8 years(4948 runs in 57 tests = 86.8 runs/test)
* Shiv needs 316 runs to reach 12K
* Shiv barring injury will play 4 tests(3 vs India and 1 vs SA) before Sangakkara plays his next test against NZ on Boxing day.
* Assuming Shiv continues scoring at the 86 runs per test rate----he will score 344 runs in his next 4 tests.
* 11684 + 344 = 12028
* That's the case for Shiv reaching 12K before Sangakkara.
* There is a 75% probability Shiv will reach 12K before Sangakkara.

There is also the question of his previous performances in India so your weighting should consider that.
