* Shiv has played 8 tests in India and has scored 624 runs---that's 78 runs per test.
* At that rate, 78 per test, Shiv will score 234 runs in the upcoming 3 tests in India.
* In South Africa Shiv has scored 799 runs in 11 tests----that's 72 runs per test.
* Let's assume Shiv scores 72 runs in the first test in SA.
* So in the next 4 tests Shiv will likely score 234 + 72 = 306 runs.
* 11684 + 306 = 11990
THIS MEANS GOING INTO BOXING DAY:
Sangakkara 11988 needs 12 runs vs NZ for 12K
Shiv 11990 needs 10 runs vs SA for 12K
QUESTION:
Whom do you want to win the race to 12K ?

In the scheme of things it does not matter and neither does it to me.
I have more of an interest in the West Indies compared to Sri Lanka so I would prefer the former to do well.
In terms of Shiv, I would like to see him stop being over cautious, stop playing with his pad, use his experience to get on top of bowlers and be positive for the team.
Everything else will follow but with Windies pulling out of the tour, it may not happen for a while anyway.

Damn! Damn! Damn!
* Congrats to Kumar Sangakkara on winning the race and becoming the 5th batsmen in history to reach 12K
* The way things are going in Windies cricket Shiv will be lucky to play another test.
