How many of you remember the collapse ? WI needed to score 208 versus Australia to make it to the World Cup finals against Sri Lanka. They were 165-2 when opener Chanderpaul was out for 80. They ended up all out 202. Richie Richardson choked and remained 49 not out.
West Indies vs Australia 1996 World Cup Semi Final
* WI fans blamed Shiv for that loss.
* He made 80 but they said he did not bat on.
* Lara made 45 in 45 balls----the great man was dominant----who cares if he got out---he was dominant.

THIS WAS THE QUARTER FINAL MATCH BETWEEN WI & SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa vs West Indies 1996 World Cup Quarter Final
* Shiv opened and made 56
* Lara slammed a dominant 111
* Lara/Chanderpaul partnership 138.
OBSERVATION:
* Shiv opened and scored 56 in the 1996 world cup quarter final and 80 in the semi final.
*
But the West Indies batting lineup is sooooooo strong today that even though Shiv is the #3 ranked test batsman in the world he cannot make the WI team for the 2015 world cup.

Wow great videos and information. I am too young to remember that match because I was a baby when the 1996 world cup took place. This is the first I am seeing those stats and it looks like a terrible collapse that has since plagued West Indies cricket. That is just unbelievable for a West Indies team in that era.

I remember ts game and the WC well. England were disappointing and only just made it to the knockout stages. It's interesting to note that WI lost to Kenya and forfeited against SL yet still should have made it to the finals.

HOW MANY OF YOU RECALL KEITH ARTHURTON'S SCORES IN THE 1996 WORLD CUP ?
Check them out:
* Arthurton was the BINARY MAN in that world cup.
* But he kept getting selected despite his failures because he was Captain Richardson's boy---the dottie connection.
