In a move to continue the trend to have more Berbicians in the West Indies team, a popular cricket lover/administrator and attorney has announced that he will set up a foundation in Florida to realize funds to train very young cricketers.
In thanking the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) officials for naming him an honouree at the Board’s 75th anniversary, Oscar Ramjeet said that he wants to play an important role to continue to develop cricket in the county of his birth.
Ramjeet, who now lives in Florida, served as Secretary of the BCB beween 1965 and 1966 and was believed to be the man who made moves for Berbice to have more representatives in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).
His move was supported by the then Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) representatives senior counsels Fred Wills and Rex Mc Kay.
President Donald Ramotar, Minister of Sports Dr Frank Anthony, and Minister of Agriculture Dr Leslie Ramsammy were present at the function when Ramjeet made the announcement, which was well received by the enthusiastic gathering at Port Mourant last Sunday.
“I will get support and assistance from Dr Tulsi Singh who has contributed significantly to cricket by sponsoring under-17 tournaments for five years,†Ramjeet said, adding that he will contact former national cricketers, businessmen, and others for their assistance in the venture.
His aim is for Berbice to continue to have test and international players on a regular basis, and said that he has already contacted a former West Indies cricketer to travel to Berbice to conduct coaching sessions.
Regional Chairman, Region Five (East Berbice/Corentyne) David Armogan and BCB officials pledged to work along with the Ministry of Sports to assist. Berbice has so far produced 15 Test and international cricketers.

I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
Kicked in my face
But I've come through
And we mean to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the World
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before
The whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose
And we mean to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the World
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions

KINGSTOWN, St.Vincent - Bangladesh are banking heavily on their batsmen for good fortunes when they take on West Indies in a two-match test series starting this weekend in St.Vincent.
Coach Chandika Hathurusingha says the batsmen will have to carry the weight of the side since their bowling is “limitedâ€.
Hathurusingha says he is expecting Bangladesh to fight hard to enforce a draw in the first test at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground starting Friday.
"Our realistic goal would be to draw the game," Hathurusingha told ESPNcricinfo.
"If we play well, bat well, we will be in the game. Our bowling stock is limited. We must look to bat deep and bat long, score runs and be in the game."
Bangladesh will be hoping for a better showing after losing the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series to West Indies.
In fact, the tourists have suffered five ODI defeats since Hathurusingha was installed as coach three months ago.
"We are working hard on the morale," he said.
"It is not an aspect that can be changed overnight. It has to come from our action, not only from the coach and players but from everyone involved in cricket. We are working on thatâ€.
Bangladesh got the better of the West Indies in the last series between the two sides in West Indies, back in 2009.
They had comprehensively beaten a weakened West Indies who were suffering a players' strike.
The Bangladesh coach has conceded that his side has significant improvement to make in test cricket.
"I think we are getting there,†said Hathurusingha.
“We are trying hard to understand our roles and finding the right way to play those rolesâ€.

[color=rgb(51, 51, 51)]West Indies have more to play for in the first Test at Arnos Vale, since Bangladesh are only looking to get out with two drawn Test matches. West Indies are the team in form, having crushed the visitors 3-0 in the ODI series. More crucially, they have to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat to New Zealand in their only Test series of the year so far.
