St John's, Antigua - The Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) has postponed its Three-day and 50-overs tournaments by a week.
The Three-day competition, originally scheduled to start September 18th, will now bowl off on September 25th, while the 50-overs commences on September 28 instead of September 21st.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LICA, Derrick Nicholas said the change was made following suggestions from one member association over concerns the tournament opening clashed with the independence celebrations of another host country.
“That week is the week with St Kitts independence, which is on the 19th and we were looking on the 18th and some of the grounds would have been unavailable in both St Kitts and Nevis. It made sense to just delay it by a week to make sure the grounds would have been available,†he said.
On the new schedule, Antigua is set to host Montserrat in a Three-day clash from September 25-27 while St Maarten will host Anguilla on the same dates.
Antigua & Barbuda open their 50-overs campaign on September 28 against Montserrat at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds.
