Pre 1991 :
In 1954-55 at Sydney the England fast bowler Frankie Tyson bowled bouncers at the
Australian Ray Lindwall , who returned the favour by hospitalising Tyson with one of his own.
An angry Tyson returned with a large lump on his head and took 6/85 in the second innings
to give England a 38-run victory. ;D

Bradman like Lara was also a scorer...remains the only man to score 300 in a day if I remember the history accurately.
on helmets: how much security do they really offer..and what is the level of security induced in modern batsmen because of it?
some batsmen appear to have been saved by the helmet help from blows to the head. yet others have been hurt helmet or not.
the fast bowling since Hall and Griffith has been night and day compared to the past. they are far bigger/taller, fitter and faster, much more scientific in attack and can do real harm if they are let loose. I therefore do not argue helmets as an unfair advantage when comparing the past and present
but uncovered wickets may be taken as an advantage/disadvantage for past batting greats..to be counted in their favour. Bradman for one could not deal with bad wickets. George Headley could

More recently in 1994 :
At the Oval , Devon Malcolm was hit on the helmet by a bouncer from Fannie de villiers
The incensed Malcolm told the South Africans "You guys are history":
and took apart their second innings with 9/57.
