ummm i think Bilal was a slave before the Prophet met him,, after that meeting, he was not...

Both Ali and Bilal were born outta Slavery

The Prophet paid his owner to free him.

Ali freed himself  Wink

the prophet married a rich widow who got him 2 ethiopian tutors one of whom was Bilal.

at the time the influence of Ethiopia on Arabia was likely profound..which is why the tutors were ethiopians

Bilal was a lawyer of that day and never was a slave.  Bilal as a slave is a story out of arabism.... and not the real story of Islam

but this is a debate for another day..after Ali is put to rest.  we can peacefully discuss Bilal

thats very interesting mapoui.  maybe he was a lawyer and when he went to Mecca he was put to be a slave

the take I have on it is more in tune with that of dr John Henrik Clarke...

you see at the time there was no black slavery by the arabs or anyone.  the conquest of spain by africans had not begun yet.  arabia was still an ethiopian colony.

it is to ethiopia the prophet went for safety when he was under great pressure in arabia.

it is ethiopia that made early islam safe and gave it the means to prospers as it did.  without ethiopia islam would have died in its infancy

Bilal was ethiopian.  the prophet a camel boy was illiterate.  that is why the rich widow paid for his teachers one of whom was Bilal.  Bilal could not possibly have been a slave.  none of the early africans among the founders of Islam were slaves.

all of that is from later arabic racism out of which flows the current  founding story to justify whatever the hell they are about with the religion..whatever they are doing with it

Very interesting!  because they are very racist to anyone that is darker than them.
