Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) president, Wilford 'Billy' Heaven, is impressed with the performances of Jamaica's young players during the just-concluded regional four-day season.

Speaking shortly after the team's arrival from St Lucia where they defeated the Windward Islands for the consolation Headley/Weekes Trophy, Hea-ven said they showed the will to succeed.

He also pointed out that he was particularly impressed with 22-year-old batsman, Jermaine Blackwood, who in the Headley/Weekes final scored 94 and 118 not our.

Blackwood, a former West Indies Under-19 standout, also ended as the team's leading scorer with 611 runs.

"When you look at a talent like Blackwood, I believe, he is exceptional," said Heaven.

"This I think is his first full season, and to go out there and do as well as he did, shows that he has a bright future ahead of him.

"Then there is (Damion) Jacobs, who picked up an eight-wicket haul in the final, and (Nkrumah) Bonner, John Campbell and AndrÃ© McCarthy, who at different stages of the season, also looked the part."

Jamaica, who defeated Wind-wards on first innings after the game ended in a draw, lost out on the main league title to Barbados.

The Barbadians, who were retaining the title, won after amassing most points after the round-robin league stage.

It was the second major trophy for Barbados this season after winning the regional Super50 tournament in February.[/size]
