I would agree, this is a very fair point.
But that was my point regarding players like Shakib as I said, he doesn't average that much, but he's got to play according to the team - in a weaker side and all that. Yet you can see the times he's won MOTM and all to know how quality a player he is and how he delivers under pressure.

Or hell, even Ross Taylor - as Mailsta said. It's hard to enumerate their contributions.

I essentially agree with you - 40+ with 90 s/r players are quality, no doubt. Regardless of context. But I'm saying that restricting this to average and s/r would make many quality players to miss out too.

Your continued points about Shakib is one of the reasons I asked the question, more to create discussion as it is obvious what is a good average or not and you know those players who do not have a great average but actually win games.


Forgetting the official rankings what would be everyone's top 10?

If a team bats the full 50  overs  with a strike rate of 90 then you have a  a 270 score .
I believe a team strike rate is the most important criteria in Odi's rather than batting averages but that must bat the full 50 overs
