Great article Andrew.
Growing up with JWs on my dad's side and Pentecostals and Evangelicals on my mom's side (parent's were divorced) I was fully immersed in the proselytizing thing. I remember accompanying my grandfather (a regular pioneer) from door to door in the heavily Hindu populated village of Barrackpore in south Trinidad.
We came upon an old wooden house next to some farmland and an old Indian man was relaxing in his hammock under his house. Nothing a JW loves more than a prone audience, especially one they assume is also a humble simpleton. The man politely listened as my grandfather expounded on the usual sales-pitch, 'We have the truth, you don't.' After quietly listening he raised his hand and asked one question that has stuck with me FOR LIFE.
"What makes your talking snakes, magical fruit trees, talking donkeys, flying chariots MORE TRUE than my talking snakes, magical fruit trees, flying monkeys and chariots?"
My grandfather would soon realize the man was not a simpleton and there is no converting an educated Hindu.
Namaste.
