The leadership of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) is facing another dilemma.
The leadership of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) is facing another dilemma. This problem is adding to its growing list of losses and failures. At this point, it is clear that the party’s superstructure is on the verge of explosive change or it will inevitably explode with time. Region Seven Businessman, Shawn Hopkinson and party memb
Move by government to restore City Hall to its former glory is a brilliant one
The Government of Guyana must be commended for its demonstrative and strong leadership in the restoration of the City Hall Building. Indeed, the tender issued for the restoration of City Hall, which appeared in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek, is not only refreshingly good news but also a necessary and important governmental action that is particularly
We owe it to Rodney to approve a new, democratic constitution where citizens can elect representatives directly to parliament
This month we remember Walter Rodney and for many of us, in the words of Kojo Nnamdi who informed me on that fatal night that he had departed: “after 41 years it still pains.” What if; had he been alive today? If a black nationalist dictatorship was not established by Forbes Burnham’s Peoples National Congress (PNC) with the first fraudul
THE PPP/C government’s recent announcement to correct the historical falsification of the death of revolutionary intellectual Walter Rodney
THE PPP/C government’s recent announcement to correct the historical falsification of the death of revolutionary intellectual Walter Rodney is an extraordinary step in ensuring that Rodney’s contributions to the struggle to remove the Burnhamite dictatorship lives in the conciousness of future generations. The old saying that one’s man revolutionar
PNC-appointed Commissioner Vincent Alexander is worried stiff that three of his party comrades will be removed from GECOM.
As reported in the media, PNC-appointed Commissioner Vincent Alexander is worried stiff that three of his party comrades will be removed from GECOM. And for well-known reasons he should be worried, because it brings to an end a well thought out rigging cabal to which Alexander has close connections and the removal of the trio certainly marks a grav
The attempt to pull down the sugar industry to advance one’s narrative should not be condoned
GTUC General Secretary, Mr. Lincoln Lewis, in a letter appearing in the June 02, 2021 Stabroek News titled “GWI must provide reasons why they cannot afford to keep these workers” in expressing his views regarding GWI’s decision to terminate workers has decided to take a swipe at the sugar industry for no apparent basis. This is a continuation of si
I cannot imagine that, in such a crucial situation, they all would turn off the pumps and go to sleep.
After the videos of President Ali visiting the various pump stations in Region 4 started surfacing on social media, I anxiously waited to see what would be the outcome. So far, neither the news publications nor social media has mentioned anything, even though there’s plenty of speculation circulating all over. Added to that are images of piled-up g
Guyana needs a broad-based mechanism to drive national consensus on electoral reforms
Recent concerns about the US Government’s planned electoral reform project, to be implemented by the International Republican Institute (IRI), were met with a positive response from the PPP/C, which has variously confirmed that civil society and political parties will have an input on electoral reforms, and that the draft amended Representation of
May 26 Wismar Massacre of Indians in Guyana
May 26 Wismar Massacre of Indians in Guyana Today May 26th 2021 is the 55th anniversary of Guyana’s Independence. It also the 57th anniversary of the Wismar Massacre, an anti-Indian act of genocide. It is one of the earliest organized acts of ethnic cleansing after the Jewish Holocaust of the late 1930s and 1940s. In fact, the New York Times and ot
It is time Georgetown moves to the forefront of innovation
ONCE again, the Georgetown municipality has put forward a most uninspiring, unimaginative and impractical budget for 2021. This is not surprising as those presenting the estimates of income and expenditure represent a bygone era. The first question to be asked is why the budget for this year is being prepared and presented in the middle of the year
The Diaspora website is woefully outdated
I read about the upcoming inaugural diasporan event this week and went to the website of the Guyana Disapora Project (GDP) at http://guydproject.minfor.gov.gy/about-mgd, to get more information. I want the Diaspora initiative to be successful this time around. How-ever, I have always been skeptical of successive Governments’ commitment to real Dias
FOR such a small population, Guyana has over 15,000 COVID cases recorded with over 320 deaths.
FOR such a small population, Guyana has over 15,000 cases recorded with over 320 deaths. This is such an alarming number since in Guyana communities interact closely with each other. The government continues to invest large sums of money to provide vaccines across our country. There are many sensitisation programmes including those on television, r

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.
