Our politics is preventing us from acting as one people and in the best interests of all people
People worldwide are feeling conflicted, stuck somewhere between their fear of COVID 19 and the vaccines, especially the gene based vaccines. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of fake news and propaganda circulating. In such circumstances, 90% of the dissenting ideas may be classified as largely unfounded, however, mixed in with these ideas is t
APNU/AFC had no time for ordinary people
Annette Ferguson recently attempted to make two arguments: that the people are suffering under this Government, and that APNU/AFC had a better housing plan than the incumbent PPP/C Government.I shall now comment on those two arguments:To begin, former Minister Ms Ferguson did not go into the trouble of explaining how the people are suffering under
The PPP currently has a strong position in Parliament
The PPP currently has a strong position in Parliament after the unsuccessful election rigging fiasco. The party has shown that, over the years, it has made more good decisions than bad ones. It is to be seen what the future holds. The slim majority which it enjoys in Parliament can only be maintained by making the best long-term decisions for the c
In just 1 year Guyana Govt has done much
It is with much enthusiasm that I write to you today to join in the celebration of the PPP/C’s one year in office. I could not be happier with what I have seen accomplished in such a short time and I am ecstatic for what is to come. In just one year, the Government has done much more for us Guyanese than what the previous Administration did and for
Amaila Falls only realistic path for Guyana
The independent assessment of the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project (AFHP) has revealed that the only realistic path for Guyana moving towards an emission-free electricity sector is by developing its hydropower potential and the fastest way forward is to maintain the AFHP.   The report, which was compiled by Norconsult, an engineering and design
APNU/AFC No-Confidence Motion is absurd
The Opposition A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) filing of no-confidence motions against Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony and Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn is ludicrous. This is something so absurd it’s laughable – through obvious absurdity, incongruity, exaggeration, and eccentricity meriting derisive laughter b
Guyana committed to strengthening ties with South American nations
PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali has told the South American trade block, MERCOSUR, that Guyana is committed to the pursuit of regional economic integration and to enhanced political, social and economic ties with its South American neighbours. The Head of State said that the aim is to ensure that there is a more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future
Paid work alone cannot eliminate poverty in Guyana
Without question, job creation and high employment must remain priority national development goals. It is wrong to assume, however, that salaries and wages are the ultimate relief for the poor of working age. This fallacy often prompts the snide remark that social protection is merely an excuse for giving free money to lazy people. The fallacy also
The leadership of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) is facing another dilemma.
The leadership of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) is facing another dilemma. This problem is adding to its growing list of losses and failures. At this point, it is clear that the party’s superstructure is on the verge of explosive change or it will inevitably explode with time. Region Seven Businessman, Shawn Hopkinson and party memb
Move by government to restore City Hall to its former glory is a brilliant one
The Government of Guyana must be commended for its demonstrative and strong leadership in the restoration of the City Hall Building. Indeed, the tender issued for the restoration of City Hall, which appeared in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek, is not only refreshingly good news but also a necessary and important governmental action that is particularly
We owe it to Rodney to approve a new, democratic constitution where citizens can elect representatives directly to parliament
This month we remember Walter Rodney and for many of us, in the words of Kojo Nnamdi who informed me on that fatal night that he had departed: “after 41 years it still pains.” What if; had he been alive today? If a black nationalist dictatorship was not established by Forbes Burnham’s Peoples National Congress (PNC) with the first fraudul
THE PPP/C government’s recent announcement to correct the historical falsification of the death of revolutionary intellectual Walter Rodney
THE PPP/C government’s recent announcement to correct the historical falsification of the death of revolutionary intellectual Walter Rodney is an extraordinary step in ensuring that Rodney’s contributions to the struggle to remove the Burnhamite dictatorship lives in the conciousness of future generations. The old saying that one’s man revolutionar

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.

YareliFormer Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Narsingh Deonarine turned in a Player-of-the-Match performance to lead West Indies to victory over Australia on the opening day of the Over-40s Cricket Global Cup 2023 in Karachi, Pakistan.

West Indies emerged with an 84-run victory on Tuesday, joining hosts Pakistan, Canada and Hong Kong as winners on the first day of the 45-over tournament.

Batting first, West Indies posted 267-7 from the full allotment of overs and then dismissed Australia for 183 from 35 overs.

In photos, Deonarine receives the Player-of-the-Match award for his 65 and 1-20 and fellow Guyanese Mahendra Nagamootoo plays a shot during his 16-ball 27.
