VERSAMMY PERMAUL MAKES HISTORY BY BECOMING THE FIRST BOWLER TO CAPTURE 650 WICKETS IN CARIBBEAN FIRST CLASS CRICKET
The Guyanese continues to distance himself from the caribbean pack. The champion left-arm spinner has reached 650 First-Class wickets in his 147th match. He achieved the milestone while playing the West Indies Academy franchise in the 2025 Caribbean First Class Championship at
the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
In March 2023, Permaul wrote his name in the history books, becoming the leading wicket-taker in Caribbean First-Class cricket by surpassing Jamaican Nikita Miller’s haul of 511 wickets.
The 35-year-old commenced his First-Class career in January 2007 against the Windward Islands franchise in Grenada.
He play just 9 Tests for the West Indies entity and captured 31 wickets.
Throughout his career he was controversially overlooked for West Indies selection. In 2014/15 & he captured 67 wickets from ten games making him the leading wicket taker of the year. In the 2020 season he was also the highest wicket taker.
In 2022 he was controversially discarded by thd West Indies Test team after capturing 5 wickets in his last Test vs England in the Republic Of Barbados.
