Thoughts on the 4th T20I...
While the bowling was obviously terrible, I feel WI still had a chance because it was a flat batting track, and they had a lot of batters and hitters in the XI.
HOWEVER, it was really perplexing to see not even one of the Top 4 batters playing properly to bat through the innings.
WI had made a huge score in SA earlier this year primarily because of Johnson Charles batting through the innings and scoring a century.
In yesterday's game, except for Andre Russell, no one even looked like they were trying to bat. They were all slogging.
Despite this, they made close to 200 at an excellent run rate.
The English batters were making runs despite playing proper shots. The pitch was so good.
Two key points...
- WI need to realise that the T20 game has moved to a place where the Top 3 batters are expected to bat for most of the innings. You cannot have Mayers slogging like Narine while batting at the top. Perhaps Hope at #3 or as opener to bat through should be the strategy. King has done reasonably. Pooran is currently the best for WI in this format, and he is a very fearless player. Perhaps he should start thinking of being till the end, even if it means not being as aggressive. He can always make up at the end.
Powell, Rutherford, Shepherd and Russell have shown they can bat really well, and need to be consistent for the next 6 months.
- The bowling was pathetic in the last two games. Even Joseph and Hosein have stopped being consistent like they used to be. Hope it is just a case of too much cricket, and a break would get them back on track. Motie has been the best bowler across formats in recent times, and I hope he continues. Shepherd had improved in the last 6-7 months with his bowling, and hope he improves further.
While Russell bowled brilliantly in the first match and Holder bowled well in the second, I am not convinced about playing these two as frontline bowlers. And Holder's batting in T20Is seems non-existent. It is high time to take a call.
TLDR; In my opinion, WI have a good chance of doing really well in the WC because of the rejuvenation of the T20I team since South Africa. Batting at the top has to have purpose, and the bowlers have to rest and come back to their best. This line-up is actually pretty decent.

Please bring these games to Providence Stadium let's see if England can make 200.
