Can west indies take the cup

Its quite a fantasy jump to see/hear some significant ones claim that Windies could win WC. On what basis do they make this claim? The fact is that we can agree that there is some potential in the team the usual suspects continue to dig them: senseless batting, awful bowling journeyman fielding.
Look, a team with the likes of Pooran, King, Mayers, Lewis, Powell, Charles, Brooks and Holder should be a challenging batting team in any circumstances against any team. But they all suffer brain freeze far too often, lack discipline and control, don't know how to keep the score board ticking without boundaries and far too often seem unable to use their feet, play along the ground, find the gaps and take advantage of bad balls, among other issues. Every once in a blue moon one or two will play a good inning but consistency does not exist nor does game awareness and ability to use playing conditions.
Ditto for the bowling: Joseph is showing some consistency, Cottrell to a lesser degree but he often too expensive while Hosein who should be the bowling kingpin seems to lose his skills and abilities ever so often. Smith, with his pace, lacks variation and the capacity to read the conditions and the batters and end sup being far too expensive far too often. With all his experience, Holder is not living up to expectations and young Cariah only shows occasional glimpse of what he supposedly can do.
And the fielding; the less said the better. We have seen enough over tome to know that the ability to be a fab ground fielding team is there but they seem to prefer exhibitions of glimpses one and far. And that is why its frustrating for fans like me knowing what they can but somehow hardly ever do it! In effect claiming they can win is mere wishful thinking at best especially since they have shown no learning and improvement curves in the warm up matches thus far.

Cricket feels a diminished sport when these Associate teams are labelled ‘minnows’. They are ranked between 13-18 in the world. They’re very good teams, as we’ve seen over the last two days
