The Case for Roston Chase?
There are certain West Indies players that just kept getting picked. I decided to do my own digging to see if in my opinion Roston Chase deserves to be consistently picked. Note that Chase is a top order batsman who also bowls. He is being picked as a batsman. Lets look firstly at his T201 Stats.
T20I Stats
Note that Chase is currently in India as part of the 16 Man West Indies Team. After 3 games Chase averages 16.00 with a hghest score of 39 and a strike rate of 85.71. He has scores of 39, 9 and 0 in his three games.
Although I am not considering his bowling lets still look at it in T201s. He has bowled 2.2 overs for 23 runs at 9.85 runs per over with NO wickets.
Test Stats
Overall Chase averages 26.78 after 43 tests. He also has 79 wickets with a best of 8/60 in tests. Note again this is less than 2 wickets per test match. Nathan Lyon who plays as the off spinner for Australia averages approximately 4 wickets per test match. We cant say then that Chase plays as no off spinner. Lets dig deeper though and look at his last 20 test innings and see if we can develop a trend and see if he is worthy of a place in the side for England. Over the last 20 completed innings by Roston Chase in tests dating back to 8th July 2020 in England to the last tests against Sri Lanka on November 29 2021 Roston Chase has amassed 267 runs at an average of 13.35. During that span he has two half centuries being 62 against South Africa in Gros Islet in June 2021 and 51 against England in Manchester in July 2020. He has also amassed 12 single digit scores including 4 ducks. This means that of 20 innings 12 of them of 60% were single digit scores. He also has 2 scores of 10, 1 score of 11, 2 scores of 20 and a 37. All of these stats are taken from espncricinfo.com. Note that Chase is a batsman who bats in the top 5 consistently for West Indies in Tests.
ODI Stats
Chase overall ODI Record after 33 ODIS averages 24.5 with no hundreds and 2 fifties. Since we say he adds bowling I alos looked at his stats and he has taken 19 wickets after 33 ODIS at just over 43 runs per wicket. At basic you want at least 1 wicket per ODI to be considered a serious bowler. The best ODI bowlers in the world hover at 2 wickets per ODI or at least 1.5. Chase averages 0.57 wickets per ODI. I decided to look at his last ten ODI innings to see how he has been doing of late. This is where to me he is judged because Chase is a batsman that you expect to bat in your top 5 for ODI. Here are the stats. in the last 10 ODI innings dating back to India 2019 and the last ODI he played against Ireland in January 2022 Chase has amassed a whopping 156 runs for an average of 17.33 since he has one not out of 2 against Ireland in Janaury 2020. During that time Chase has 3 completed innings single digit scores including a duck. There is also the 2 not out and a highest of 41 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. There are also scores of 38, 20, two 19s and a 13.
It is on the basis of the stats above that I ask the CWI selectors to please not to consider Roston Chase for any further international duties. Chase must return to the Barbados side and consistently score runs over 2 seasons for me to be considered. It is time to give someone else a run just as Chase has gotten a run. He has played 43 tests. He has played every single format for the West Indies in the last year and has not shone in any format. Averages of 17.33 in your last 10 ODIS, 13.35 over 20 test innigs and 16 in T201s mean you cannot consider him. Messers Haynes and Mr Sarwan the time has come to look elsehwere. I know he is a part of the 16 man T20I squad. He probably wont play anyway so when he gets home please let him know he needs to return to the regional set up and others will get a chance to shine.

Who is that one player you thought would go on to dominate international cricket but didn't, and still continues to be one of your favourite players?

Roston Chase went unsold at the auction but has put up performances
with the ball India may not have expected from him in this format.
He got a chance in the XI in the first place only because Jason Holder wasn't fit
but retained his place with 2 for 14 from four overs
dismissing Rohit Sharma and Kishan
following it with 3 for 25 with the wickets of Rohit, Suryakumar and Kohli.
With five wickets and an economy rate of just 4.87 in the series
