Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has taken yet another sly dig at his former teammate and captain Steve Waugh. The legendary spinner has never shied away from expressing of his animosity towards Waugh. The infamous falling out between the two had taken place when Shane Warne was dropped during a Test tour of the West Indies in 1999 while Waugh was leading the team.
Shane Warne, who is Australia’s all-time highest wicket-taker in Tests, had failed to perform well in the series. He had looked like a pale shadow of his usual self as he struggled to regain his form following a shoulder operation. Waugh then got his way at a selection meeting before the fourth Test as he asked for the ex-spinner to be dropped.
In 2018, Shane Warne had called Waugh the “most selfish cricketer” in his autobiography, writing: “Steve Waugh was the most selfish player I ever played with and was only worried about averaging 50”. He had also narrated what transpired during the tour of West Indies in 1991.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
