West Indies white-ball cricket captain, Kieron Pollard is not paying attention to the difference in ranking between his side and India who are currently locked at a win apiece in their three-match T20i series.
Pollard’s West Indies evened the series thanks to an 8-wicket win in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, making up for a 7-wicket loss in the first T20i last Friday.
Pollard oversaw a comprehensive win for the Caribbean side, first restricting India to 170-7 before watching his young batsmen make light work of the total, cruising to 173-2 in the 19th over.
Lendl Simmons, 67 not out, and Evin Lewis, 40, got the visitors off to a great start after Hayden Walsh Jr, 2-28, and Kesrick Williams, 2-30, did some damage in the first half of the encounter.
Shimron Hetmyer, 23, and Nicholas Pooran, 38 not out, kept the momentum going for the West Indies until they got over the line.
Those performances are what is important to the new West Indies captain, who said if his side cleans up a few things like remaining disciplined with the ball, they could beat any team in world cricket.
"Things like low rankings happen. Different circumstances, that's in the past. What we can control is what's in front of us,” said Pollard after Sunday’s win.
The all-rounder believes the team just has to remain a unit, with each person playing their role and winning will come as a consequence.

Tremendously dominant batting display by India. They found another gear tonight & they proved unstoppable. I am still encouraged by the potential of this west indies team though. One or two tweaks here and there and they'll be fine in time.

Pollard joins an elite list for the Men In Maroon in T20I history, as he becomes one of the four WI batsmen to breach the 1000-run mark in the shortest format!
