Young Warriors Cricket Club is back. A special meeting of the players and members of the village of Cumberland was held yesterday at the Cricket Ground and it was decided to arrest the rapid decline of the Young Warriors Cricket Club who only recently produced it's first Test Cricketer in the classy Shimron Hetmyer. After pleads from players and residents of the community, I decided to lead the Interim Management team to bring back the club to where it belong. It must be noted that the life of the elected officials who basically did not function, came to an end. The committee includes Suresh Sripal of Price is Right Supermarket, Roshan Satar, Uncle Sun, Vishal Mahabir, Seon Hetmyer, who was unanimously voted as Captain, Suresh Dhanai, also the Vice Captain, Linden Xsx and Amir Khan. Former National Under 19 pacer Kwasi Maltay is the coach with Gladstone Hetmyer and Satanand Mahabir to share the responsibility of the Manager. The door is open to anyone who genuinely wants to assist the rebuilding process. The first task is to get cricket to be played at the ground and as a result, a squad of players were identified for the first division team. The preparation of the venue commenced immediately as evident in the pictures. We are working towards sourcing a piece of covers and a tractor. Playing uniforms (coloured) are needed urgently and we plan on asking former players and friends of the club to assist us namely: Damodar Daesrath, Trib Jagessar, Looknauth Ramsuchit, Farook Hussain, Darrel Narine, Yadram Bogh, Aftab Shamsudeen and others. Mr Sripal will be in charge of the finance, Amir Khan, designated secretary and Linden, venue preparation. We have hired a part time caretaker ( Ryan Lindie) at a cost of $5,000 per week.
So here we are and we can't do it alone. We need your help in cash or kind. All funds will be accounted for and will be spent on its intended purpose. Thanks in advance as we strive to produce more of Shimron Hetmyer, Gajanand Singh, Richard Ramdeen, Kevin Ramdeen, Maltay, Balram N Michelle Samaroo, Linden, Alex Algoo, Damodar, Ramsuchit, Seon and many others too many to mention. Forgive me if I left out anyone. Mention was made of the outstanding contribution of former National Senior Cricketer, Hubern Evans and Sahadeo Singh.
