The tournament will be used as a yard stick to select the best possible players to represent Guyana.
At the official media launch in the GCB boardroom on Regent Street, the board’s Marketing Manager Raj Singh acknowledged the continued support of Dave West Indian Imports for the third year in succession.
“And this year they’ve increased the sponsorship. The owner of this sponsorship outfit- Dave West Indian Imports – is an ardent cricket fan, supporter and very close confidant of several of the cricketers. And he’s a man who we can say, ‘puts his money where his mouth is’; he said he is going to support cricket and he’s been with the Guyana Cricket Board now for the third consecutive year supporting our youths and their development,” Singh said.
Singh said that while the cricket is a game, it is now a passageway for a solid financial future. “Cricket is a very rewarding career. You can make it a profession now,” he said.
He pointed this out to the players who are all under contract with the GCB and who are earning varying levels of remuneration every month.
Meanwhile, acting president of the local governing body, Fizul Bacchus, pointed out that this level of the game is just the beginning of a career where players can only develop.
“I want to urge the players to do your best, make sure you gain a selection on the Guyana team to go and play the regional tournament so you can elevate your life,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Dave West Indian Imports was Amar Ramraj, hailed the partnership with the GCB.
The competition, which will run from February 4-10, will involve Berbice, Demerara, Essequibo and the President’s XI. Matches will be played at the Lusignan, GCC, Everest and Tuschen grounds
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
