Cook went pass Chanderpaul and Lara in a single innings ;)

Folks, had the selectors not shafted the great Shivster by dropping him
albeit to preserve Lara's record aggregate as a west indian

Shiv would still be ahead as a west indian.

Cook began this innings in ninth place on the list of all-time Test run scorers
and will finish it in sixth : having passed Jayawardene late on the second day
then Shivnarine Chanderpaul
and finally Brian Lara with a cover-drive for four from the penultimate delivery of day three !
