Reading the transcript of Lara's speech is quite interesting. The theme throughout seems to be implicitly about different forms of bullying and abuses of power (and how those with power have a responsibility toward others), and how this corrupted his idealistic view of his heroes and the game. I have now listened to speech and it was Lara rambling all over the place. It was as if there was no theme to the speech. He was on point regarding the cancer regarding West Indies cricket is the relationship between board and players. His surmising that it started with the board and Viv, but that started with the board and Clive. Also his speaking of Holding and Croft in isolation did a great disservice. His talking about players should walk I guess he never spoke to Greenidge who was a walker in his early career until witnessing the Australians never walking despite getting clear edges in the 1975/76 series. Also it was the first he publicly stated the real reason for his retirement something I always felt and he confirmed my suspicions.
