GAYLE HITS 10,000
There’s no stopping that West Indies hurricane called Chris Gale. The big-hitting Jamaican opening batsman became the first batsman to reach the 10,000-run milestone as he slammed 77 for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 21-run win against Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League in Rajkot on Tuesday. His innings came off 38 balls and included five fours and seven sixes. The 37-year-old Gayle already holds the most records in the format: the most centuries (18) and 50s (60), the highest individual score (175 not out for RCB); joint fastest 50 (off 12 balls for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League) and the most sixes (736) and fours (764). RCB hoisted 213 for two with India skipper Virat Kohli slamming 64 and then restricted Gujarat to 192 with Kiwi Brendon McCullum hitting 72 off 44 balls.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Yes I saw the same on yahoo news. He is surely pure hitter of the bowl. Yesterday's his inning was outstanding. As he do always, more sixes than fours.
I always love watching him. Hope I will able to see many cracking performance by him in remaining series.

I have to agree that it's a pleasure to watch him play, there are not many like him, and when he is on the pitch we can always expect class coming from his side.

I'm sure that every cricket fan knows only too well what sort of player Gayle is, and it will come as no surprise to see him hit 10,000 runs. The only surprise is probably that he hasn't hit more at this stage of his career. He hasn't been without his controversies over the years, and when a team decides to take him on, he does tend to come with a bit of baggage surrounding him, but if you want a player that is almost guaranteed to score you runs then its certainly still worth taking a punt on Gayle.

Yeah, apparently wherever there is talent, we also have some controversy!
The thing is, if the teams to take him on despite all that, it's because the do acknowledge his capacity to hit. I do wonder if he didn't have that baggage around him, maybe he could have reached this number sooner as you mention @pwarbi.

They do say that there is a fine line between a genius and an eccentric, and with sportsmen those eccentricities do tend to come out as controversies. Would Gayle be the player he is without the drama surrounding him is a good question, and one that I think is pretty difficult to answer.
It would be nice to think that a player as talented as Gayle would be able to cut out all the nonsense and just concentrate on playing, keeping the performance but I'm not sure. And even though people may like to criticise him, secretly I do think we all know that he's good for the game as a whole and without that 'edge' he's got, the sport would be a lot less interesting from a commercial perspective.
