Another steady bowling performance by discarded West Indies left-arm spinner Nikita Miller has put leaders Jamaica Scorpions in a good position to get a positive result against the Guyana Amazon Warriors heading into the third day of their top-of-the-table WICB Four-day Tournament clash at Sabina Park.
Bowling his usual nagging lines and exercising flight and variations, Miller claimed four for 69, as second-place Guyana, who resumed the day on 69 without loss, were bowled out for 262.
This was for a small first-innings lead of seven runs after the Scorpions had posted 255 in their first time at bat on day one.
Batting a second time, the Scorpions then closed on 61 for one, with Jermaine Blackwood not out on 25 and first-innings centurion Chadwick Walton on nine.
Opener John Campbell, 26, is the batsman to be dismissed.
Resuming with the intention of overhauling the Scorpions' competitive total, Guyana were led in their pursuits by recent West Indies Under-19 World Cup winning captain, opener Shimron Hetmyer, and the father-and-son duo of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul.
The trio scored impressive half-centuries, with Hetmyer leading the way with 74 and Tagnerine and Shivnarine, scoring 59 and 58, respectively.
However, unable to keep partners, they were somewhat undermined by Miller, who, along with part-time off-spinner Andre McCarthy and leg-spinner Damion Jacobs took wickets at regular intervals.
McCarthy, who was the seventh bowler introduced into the attack, bowled eight overs before finishing with three for 18, while Jacobs, who ended with two for 35 off 11.3 overs.
Opening ball bowlers Jerome Taylor and Marquino Mindley, part-timer off-spinner Campbell and all-rounder Derval Green, were the other bowlers that were used, and who went wicketless.
The second innings for the Scorpions then saw Walton and Campbell putting on 30 runs before the latter was caught behind off the bowling of fast bowler Romario Shepard after hanging his bat loosely at an outswinger.
