Narine, Mamchan take South into semis

Seamers Liam Mamchan and Rayall Narine combined for an excellent bowling performance to rout South West and take South into the semi-finals of the TTCB Under-15 Shell Interzone tournament on Wednesday.
South accumulated 226 all out after winning the toss and taking first strike at James Park in Egypt Village, Point Fortin.
Openers Rodney Beharry of Presentation College and Kyle Roopchand of Naparima College had a 50 plus opening stand for the third successive time in the series.
Following on from their 116-run and 83-run efforts in the first two games, they again got South off to a great start by adding 74 runs for the first wicket.
Beharry fell for 15, while Roopchand went on to score 46 before being dismissed.
When South lost skipper Tariq Mohammed via an unfortunate leg before decision, a mini collapse ensued.
However, the talented Darren Samlal and all rounder Narine brought South back into the game by getting 43 and 36 respectively.
Presentation College’s Narine then made two early breakthroughs but South West fought back well and at one point they were 68 for two in pursuit 184 in the rain affected game.
Mamchan, a 12-year old Naparima College student bowling his right arm seamers then set the cat amongst the pigeons, finishing his eight-over spell with figures of 3/12.
Narine came back later on to grab another wicket to finish with 3/6.
South will now meet North in the semis next Wednesday at the NCC in Balmain. While South topped the group B, North lost to East on Wednesday to finish second.
East, the defending champions batted first and scored 204 all out with Sion Hackett getting 56 and Andrew Ramsarran 23.
Mathew Gittens was the best of the North bowlers with 3/39.
Jabari Phillip then ensured that no upsets were on the cards as he grabbed 4/15 to bowl out North for 89.
North will now meet Central in the other semis on Thursday at the NCC.
