MATCH-WINNING EFFORT: Roshon Primus.
Star-studded Cane Farm became the new champions of the UWI T20 competition after they beat visiting team Demarara Cricket Club (DCC) by 67 runs in Sunday's final at the Sir Frank Worrell ground at the UWI SPEC facility.
DCC, were unable to cope with the formidable target of 218 they were given to chase, after Cane Farm rattled up 217 for seven in their allotted 20 overs, batting first.
West Indies opening batsman Evin Lewis set the pace with a hurricane 90 off just 35 balls, hammering 10 sixes and six fours. But he got good support from eventual Man-of-the-Match, Barbadian Roshon Primus who made 43 off 18 (three sixes, four fours) and Lendl Simmons (26 off 27). Sherfane Rutherford was the leading bowler for DCC, taking three for 32 in his four overs.
Trinidad and Tobago Red Force all-rounder Primus then cemented his Man-of-the-Match award by taking four wickets for 39 runs in his four overs, while pacer Ravi Rampaul and leg-spinning all-rounder Imran Khan supported with two wickets apiece.
It also helped that Cane Farm were able to limit the prolific Gajanand Singh to 64 off 39 balls. Kellon Carmichael had the next best effort for DCC with 34 off 21 deliveries as the Guyanese side's run chase folded at the start of the 18th over.
Summarised scores:
Cane Farm 217-7, 20 overs (Evin Lewis 90, Roshon Primus 43, Lendl Simmons 26; Sherfane Rutherford 3-22) vs DCC 150 all out, 17.1 overs (Gajanand Singh 64, Kellon Carmichael 34, Keemo Paul 25; Roshon Primus 4-39, Ravi Rampaul 2-19, Imran Khan 2-34)
