Nurse shines on difficult pitch in final trial

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados—
The 28-year-old, who has played four One-Day Internationals and four Twenty20 Internationals, stroked 58 batting at number eight, as Kevin Stoute’s XI defeated Omar Phillips’s XI by two wickets at the Weymouth ground.
Phillips’s XI rallied to 169 all out off 39.3 overs on a difficult pitch and set a revised target of 133 off 36 overs, Stoute’s XI reached their target off 34.5 overs.
The right-handed Nurse took centre stage with his knock during the first half of the contest, facing 53 deliveries and hitting a four and four sixes.
Phillips’s XI were languishing at 72 for six in the 22nd over before Nurse helped lift the innings by posting 40 for the seventh wicket with Marlon Welcome-Goodman (14) and a further 44 for the eighth wicket with wicket-keeper/batsman Tevyn Walcott (11).
Nurse was last out in the final over, falling by the run out route.
Opener Kyle Corbin was the other batsman to get among the runs, notching 41 from 61 deliveries.
Seamer Dario Seale (2-24), Test left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (2-32) and fellow left-arm spinner Dane Currency (2-44) all finished with two wickets each.
In reply, Stoute and opener Shane Parris both top-scored with 35 while left-handed opener Anthony Alleyne struck a run-a-ball 26.
Nurse returned with his off-spin to claim two for 31.
The Regional Super50 runs from January 24 to February 18 in Barbados and Antigua. (CMC)
