Bravo free to play for Red Force

Embattled West Indies middle order batsman Darren Bravo is free to play for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and has been included in a list of 41 players called to training this week in preparation for the franchise’s defence of the Regional Super50 title.
Bravo’s call-up comes even as he is currently involved in a legal dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) over his dismissal from the One-Day day team on the eve of last month’s Tri Nation series with hosts Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Bravo has sent a pre-action protocal letter to the WICB.
Since his return home, Bravo has not joined up with the Red Force, currently engaged in the Digicel Regional 4-Day tournament as the TTCB sought clarification on his status from the West Indies board.
Contacted yesterday, CEO of the TTCB, Suruj Ragoonath said he had since received word from the regional body on Bravo.
“I heard from them and they stated there was nothing legal that prohibits him from playing for Trinidad.”
But Ragoonath added, “it’s up to Darren to to determine if he wants to play himself.”
Bravo was the leading batsman in last year’s series, amassing 274 runs in his three matches, including a Man-of-the-Match 97 in the final against the Barbados Pride as the Red Force won their second Super-50 in a row.
Also called to training is discarded West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, who opted out of this season’s four-day series, West Indies opener Evin Lewis and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel.
The training sessions will commence on Tuesday, at 9 am at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.
In other news, Ragoonath said he had not yet received a report being conducted by president Azim Bassarath and second vice-president Lalman Kowlessar into allegations of sexual abuse involving a TTCB official and a national youth team player.
On Thursday, Ragoonath said a committee had been formed to look into the allegations.
