CRICKET SCANDAL*
No action yet on five-month-old sexual misconduct claim
Published on Dec 10, 2016, 12:13 am AST
TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board second vice-president Lalman Kowlessar confirmed yesterday that he and president Azim Bassarath have been tasked with doing a report into an alleged sexual assault involving another TTCB official and a player, during a West Indies youth tournament earlier this year.
Meanwhile, National League Representative Dinanath Ramnarine said he and his fellow NLRs intend to report the matter to the relevant authorities, including the Police, “so that this can be properly investigated by an independent body with the power to do soâ€.
“As members of the TTCB, we believe we have a moral and legal obligation for the matter to be dealt with swiftly and in the best interest of all concerned,†a media statement read, adding that the TTCB had failed in its fiduciary duty to report the matter to the Police.

Local official withdrawn from TTCB duties
Saturday, December 10 2016
A LOCAL cricket official, who is currently under investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TT CB) for alleged sexual abuse of a national youth player has been withdrawn from duties under the auspices of the TT CB.
According to the TT CB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Suruj Ragoonath in a telephone interview yesterday, “this is not your normal matter.
We need to be very careful and very responsible in this situation.
In the meantime, the accused is not going to be involved in any thing (relating to the TT CB) until the matter is resolved fully.†Asked if the TT CB met with the player involved in the scenario, Ragoonath replied, “this is a sensitive matter. I am not at liberty to comment on it.
The matter is being investigated.
The TT CB is not making any statement on it. It’s an internal matter and it’s very sensitive.†With regards to the technical committee of the TT CB, which was set up to investigate the matter, the ex-TT and West Indies opener stressed, “we have put a committee in place and the matter is being investigated.
It’s a very sensitive matter and it is being dealt with. In the meantime, what we have chosen to do, because of the sensitivity of the matter, is try and not make any statement on it.â€
