Self-proclaimed ‘female Chris Gayle’ Deandra Dottin ready to bring the Heat for Brisbane
DECEMBER 5, 2016 9:56PM
Rikki-Lee Arnold The Courier-Mail
WEST Indies powerhouse Deandra Dottin is ready to unleash in this year’s Big Bash League, claiming she can be better for the Brisbane Heat than she was for Perth last season.
The self-proclaimed “female Chris Gayle†has already impressed her Heat teammates at training with her big-hitting ways.
Now the allrounder, who scored the first international century in women’s T20 cricket with a 38-ball ton, is ready to show that ability to the rest of the competition.
Dottin played in the inaugural women’s BBL last season, but only notched up six games for the Scorchers.
This time around she will lend herself to the Heat for the entire season and is ready to prove herself in a competition that “feels a lot strongerâ€.
“I want to be way better than last year,†she said.
“I can’t really say much about last season because it was a rush.
“I’ve come to do my best as usual ... batting and bowling and helping the team to get as far as (they) can.â€
Dottin was welcomed to town by fellow West Indian athlete and star Firebird Romelda Aiken.
The Jamaican praised Dottin’s temporary move and hailed her Australian appearances as a big win for women in sport.
“A lot of us are really underestimated because we’re female but I think the more we can get ourselves out there to show the world what we’ve got, it brings another aspect,†Aiken said.
“It’s pretty good we’ve got new players coming in to represent Queensland.â€
