TTCB elections postponed yet again
AZARD ALI Friday, December 9 2016
THE EXECUTIVE of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TT CB) yesterday gave a further commitment to a High Court judge in San Fernando, that executive elections would not be held until hearing and determination of the lawsuit filed against it.
The lawsuit came up for hearing before Justice Carol Gobin which arose out of a challenge by the Dinanath Ramnarine-led slate which, on October 21, was granted an injunction by the judge to stop the elections which were due the following day.
Ramnarine, a former West Indies spin bowler, ex-national cricketer Daren Ganga, West Indies T20 leg-spinner Samuel Badree and officials Anil Kamal, Camal Basdeo and St Servius Clint Pamphile, are challenging a number of alleged breaches. In their lawsuit, they are contending that certain articles of the TT CB’s constitution govering the election process, are unconstitutional.
As a result, the TT CB’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, was put on hold.
Yesterday, both Senior Counsel Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, instructed by Vivek Lakhan-Joseph representing the Ramnarine-led slate, and Senior Counsel Fyard Hosein for the TT CB, expressed to Justice Gobin their consensual position, that the current executive will further extend a concession, to undertake not to hold executive elections until the hearing and determination of the leave application as well as the substantive matter.
Both attorneys also agreed before the judge, that they propose to have the court determine both the ‘Leave’ application, and the substantive matter on the merits of the case, together, instead of having separate and consecutive hearings.
Justice Gobin gave further directions to the parties with respect to further affidavit evidence and legal submissions. Both sides are to next appear again before the judge for hearing and determination of the matter on March 13 2017.

The individual regions have members that can do this .
The problem the outgoing Board has 12 votes and can vote themselves back in.
Ramnarine is taking this to the Courts at the moment.
