Sir Viv: Bravo Paying For Past Transgressions

(ANTIGUAOBSERVER)Former West Indies captain Sir Vivian Richards has suggested that suspended batsman Darren Bravo is being hounded for previous issues involving the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

The Antiguan, who scored 8,540 runs in 121 Test matches at an average of 50.23, including 24 centuries, said there could be more to the story than meets the eyes.

“I just believe that maybe, young Darren Bravo himself could be in that persecuting sort of a lane because of maybe, other stuff that was done with his brother (Dwayne) so it’s a long story,” Sir Viv said.

The announcement of Bravo’s suspension came a day after he reacted on Twitter to WICB Chairman Dave Cameron’s interview, in which he said Bravo was offered a grade C contract due to his slipping batting average.

Bravo responded with a tweet saying he had never been offered a Grade-A

contract. “You have been failing 4 d last 4yrs. Y don’t u resign and FYI I’ve neva been given an A contract. Big idiot @davec51,” he tweeted.

The incident happened on November 11 just prior to the start of the Tri Nation Series with Zimbabwe and host Sri Lanka.

Sir Viv said there have been too many squabbles between the board and its players and it is time to move on.

“I think it’s about time that we just leave these things alone at this stage. I guess there are a lot of issues going on there. All that I can say on the whole matter is that rather than moving on, we just keep moving back every time. Every time there is some grounds gained, we move yards back after that,” the former player said.

West Indies failed to make it to the finals of the Tri Nations Series with host Sri Lanka emerging winners in the finals by six wickets over Zimbabwe.
