Lancashire's 19-year-old opener Haseeb Hameed is set to be named in England's squad for their tour to Bangladesh when it is announced on Friday.
If he plays in the first Test Hameed will become only the second teenager to appear in the longer form of the game for England since 1949.
England play two Tests and three one-day internationals in Bangladesh, beginning on 7 October.
Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales have opted out of the tour over security concerns.
In the absence of one-day captain Morgan, wicketkeeper Jos Buttler will lead the limited-overs side.
By choosing not to travel, Hales has given up his place in the Test side, though it is likely he would have been left out anyway after a disappointing home series against Pakistan.
That has opened the door for Hameed, the right-hander who has scored 1,129 runs in the County Championship this season.

The style of our selectors and management has been to nurture and give a run to incoming players and I hope they continue that approach with this lad as he looks very promising having score over 4k runs at a 52 or so average.
He appears a natural number 3 so we wait and see how he goes....
