It was a bright moment yesterday for 11-year-old Kayson Ninvalle, when he was awarded lifetime membership to former West Indies Cricket Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan’s Fitness53 Gym, in Providence.
The young Ninvalle is the current U-13 Caribbean PreCadet champion and the U-15 runner-up, in addition to being one of best U-11 prospects in Guyana. According to Sarwan, the wheels began turning to young Ninvalle’s lifetime membership when he met with his father,Steve.
“It was his dad who got it started; he had told me that Kayson was a big fan (of me), and really wanted to meet me†stated the cricketer.
“When I heard how well he had done I decided to award him the membership, it wasn’t his performance alone that made me do it, but I believe that we corporate Guyana have a huge role to play in developing our young athletes†Sarwan added.
He went on to say that being a former sportsman,he knows the challenges faced by young athletes and once Kayson is guided properly, his potential has no ceiling.
Also commenting was Guyana Table Tennis Association’s (GTTA) president, Godfrey Munroe, who stated that Ninvalle was one of the brighter prospects that Guyana had.
He also gave information regarding Ninvalle’s selection,by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF),to take part in a camp in Lima,Peru.
“Kayson was recognised by ITTF and will be taking part in a National World’s Hope camp in October, where the best prospects in the Latin American Region will be supported through the various ITTF programs†stated Munroe.
“If he is selected at the camp, he will be given a clear path and support by the ITTF to being a better Table Tennis player†declared Munroe.
Kayson chimed in on the membership, stating that he was very excited to not only meet his hero, but to be given the membership.
“I was so excited to meet Sarwan, and when I heard he was going to be here, I couldn’t stop smiling, I know I can use this membership to be a better table tennis player†Kayson stated.
When commenting on what his goals were, the 11-year-old simply stated “I want to be the best table tennis player in Guyana and I wanna win all the medals in Guyana, and outside of Guyana.â€
