Meself and five brothers were watching the test match India Windies at Starlight restaurant recently , women folks being at a baby shower nearby, Sitting next to us on the adjacent table was an elderly Black gentleman over 80 years old with two young men . Naturally I greeted him and ask where he was from . He replied that he was from New , Amsterdam but moved away to Georgetown. He then enquired as to where I was from and I when told him. I can see that his eyes lit up " Do you know Garfield to which I replied that I did '
I then asked as to how he knew Garfield. He stated that he was a good friend of Garfield back then and haven't seen him for over 35 years and that they played cricket against each other ., When he told me which team he played for , I suddenly recognise his face . I was nine or ten but I recall that this was the fastest bowler I have ever seen at that age .
I then' said"you are Mi....' I then told him that I saw him bowl in the days and as a youngster and that he was the fastest that I ever saw ".
He was now mostly interested in Garfield and when I told him that I know where Garfield lives and I will take him to meet he the following week , I saw happiness in his face . I then asked him to tell me something about Garfield but every thing he told me about Garfield , I already knew,.
He stated that Garfield was the best batsman he ever faced . He was telling me that that man was the hardest hitter of the ball and always led the batting averages in the competition and in addition he never dropped a catch . He described him as about six feet four inches . I then related to him when Garfield destroyed his team making 92 runs . This old man also remembered that game
He told me something that I never knew . Both him and Garfield was called up for Berbice trials for the Jones cup, the only two players from the second division but Garfield never showed up,
T he second division was below the Davson cup
Garfield and Minty met today and the cricket stories I heard today can fill a book '
Garfield nicknamed after Garfield Sobers is my father

i am going to give more and more credence to our writers as topics and give them a few hours as a sticky.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
