Vince is good for something : shy from 10 yards !
Eighteen runs short of becoming the youngest Test opener
to score a hundred in England :-[

I knew this would happen.
Statistics apart, this pitch is a good batting wicket. Khan bowled well but the batsmen mainly got themselves out.
300 was never going to be enough.
Of those tests you mentioned, team batting first losing, how many times did England bat first and when was the last test there please?

Since 2000, England have batted first at Edgbaston on 5 occasions. They have lost 3 and won 2. The last time England batted first at Edgbaston prior to this Test was back in 2008 when they lost to
South Africa
. Overall, teams batting first since 2000 have lost 8, drawn 3 and won 2.
Since 2005, only one team has posted a score of 300+ in the first innings of a Test match here -
West Indies
in 2012.
A list of all first innings scores and results of the match since 2000 can be seen in this graphic:
England were the last team to bat first and win at Edgbaston back in 2005 against
Australia

England strike with the fourth ball of the day and the last ball of the day, but in between Pakistan have taken a stranglehold on this Test match. Although Azhar Ali walked off thoroughly disappointed, he should hold his head up high for a superb innings.
