TT Under-19s face Red Force in warm-up match
BRIJ PARASNATH Saturday, July 9 2016
TRINIDAD AND Tobago Under- 19 cricketers will do battle with the Red Force team in a 50-overs-a-side warm-up match at the Queen’s Park Oval, St Clair today.
This match has been specially organised to strengthen the national youth team, to expose them to a higher level of competition and to be better prepared for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-19 tournament, which will be staged in the St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The 16-year-old Kirstan Kallicharran has been saddled with enormous responsibility to lead both the national Under-19 and Under-17 teams.
Yesterday, Cephas Cooper was instrumental in leading the national Under-17 team to a three-wicket win over the Windward Islands Under-17 in a practice match contested at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva. The Windwards were bowled out for 118 and Cooper rallied the local team to victory with a topscore of 46.
Both Cooper and Kallicharran have been named in the national Under-19 squad.
The Trinidad and Tobago Under- 19 squad comprise
Kallicharran (captain), Saiba Batoosingh (vice-captain), Cooper, Keagan Simmons, Dejourn Charles, Brandon Maraj, Brian Boodram, Jarlanie Seales, Joshua Da Silva (wicketkeeper), Shatrughan Rambaran, Jonathan Bootan, Shaaron Lewis, Jabari Mills, Amrit Kistow, David Williams, Daniel Williams, Negus Smith.
