MAN OF THE MATCH: Cephas Cooper
South clinched the Vasha Foods North/South Under-19 Classic with a two-run win on the Duckworth/Lewis Method in a rain-marred match at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva on Sunday night. The game started late and was reduced to 30 overs. North were sent in to bat and were restricted to 123 for 11.
The game was contested with all 14 players with the national selectors wanting to get one final look at all the players before selecting the Trinidad and Tobago squad for the regional youth tournament. Only three North batsmen reached double figures with opener Keagan Simmons hitting 20, Brandon Maharaj scoring 16 and skipper Kirstan Kallichran making 26.
North were under pressure from the start losing Jordan Warner in the second over. Rain interrupted after just five overs and the players had to wait until after 6 pm to resume their innings. South never lost really lost their way in the chase with Man-of-the-Match Cephas Cooper hitting a patient 55 to ensure his team’s victory.
Dejourn Charles also chipped in with 20 as South replied with 113 for three after 28 overs when rain ended the match. Rain also prevented the rescheduled Under-15 North/South Classic from being played today.
