West Indies cricketer Samuel Badree last Saturday sponsored a children’s party in his hometown of Barrackpore.
The event was held at the Cumuto Recreation Ground, Rochard Douglas Road where the ground was converted into a child’s dreamland.
There were bouncy castles, water games including water slides and others tunnels one of which was a 25 foot pyramid, races and other playing games.
Some children competed in the races to capture some of the winning prizes including Digicel cellular phones.
Member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland Dr. Lovell Francis attended the event, along with former Trinidad and Tobago cricket captain Daren Ganga, West Indies cricketers Rayad Emrit, Evin Lewis, and Jason Mohammed.
Badree was shown much love from the villagers and many mobbed the bowler trying to get an autograph or photograph.
In addressing the crowd Badree said that he hoped the event will become an annual event.
Badree, who still lives in Barrackpore with his wife and two daughters recalled his childhood growing up in Barrackpore and playing cricket on the very ground of the party, in his early days.
He jokingly referred to the many instances as a youngster when his mother would need to brandish a whip to get him to stop playing cricket outside and come home as night fell.
Badree urged the audience to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams and goals with hard work.
