KIRST AN KALLICHARRAN and Cephas Cooper, two of Trinidad and Tobago’s more talented youth players, will be up against each when the Vasha North/ South Under-17 Classic takes place at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva today from 2 pm.
Kallicharran, who was the youngest member of the triumphant West Indies Under-19 team at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh; will lead the North team in defence of the title they won in a high-scoring match last year.
The 16-year-old was one of the outstanding players of the inaugural edition. Kallicharran slammed 95 and claimed two wickets as North romped to a convincing seven-wicket victory with 12.1 overs remaining.
Cooper, who made 65 out of South’s 254 for nine in 50 overs last year; will spearhead the South’s challenge on this occasion with the hope of emerging victorious.
North replied with 258 for three in 37.5 overs.
The Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 training squad will be chosen from among the outstanding players involved in this match.
In related news, yesterday’s North-South Classic Under-15 category clash was abandoned due to soggy conditions at the NCC Ground and the match has been re-scheduled for this Friday at the same venue.
